What I did for my mother on Mother's Day

Do you want to know what I did for my mother on Mother's Day? Alright. First, I woke up early in the morning at about 8a.m. Then, I woke my two sisters. Luckily, my mother was still sleeping. When I went to the kitchen, my father was feeding my cat. I told him that my sisters and I were planning to make breakfast for my mother. He agreed to help. My father made scrambled eggs while I made toast with jam and peanut butter on it. I cut the toast into tiny hearts. My elder sister made coffee and cut an apple into pieces. My younger sister put the breakfast, coffee and card on a tray. My elder sister carried the tray to my mother's bedroom. My younger sister and I woke my mother up and both my sisters and I shouted,"Happy Mother's Day!". My mother was surprised and brushed her teeth before eating the breakfast. After that, she thanked us.

What is your favourite song and why?

Hmm.... I have a lot of favourite songs but I like the song 'xin wo' the best. It is actually a chinese song performed by two taiwanese group named S.H.E and Fahrenheit. S.H.E is a girl band while Fahrenheit is a boy band. The name S.H.E was actually taken from the first latter of each members' name which is Selina, Hebe and Ella. There are four male singers in the group Fahrenheit. They are Jiro, Calvin, Wu Chun and Arron. Both S.H.E and Fahrenheit are very talented. Alright enough about the singers. I think I should tell you about the song. 'Xin wo' is a very nice song to be heard. If 'xin wo' is translated in english, it would be 'new nest'. The song/melody is catchy. It will make you feel happy when you hear this song.

What is your idea of a dull evening?

My idea of dull evening is to read a book or watch a television programme. Actually the most boring day of my life is during last year's December holidays. My family had nowhere to go and we were bored. Anyway back to the ''idea of a dull evening'' story. The reason why I get bored is when my neighbours are not at home, I had finished reading all my storybooks at home, both my sisters are not around and I had played all the games in my NDS, PSP and XBOX. That is al I have to say.

What is a good neighbour?

A good neighbour is just like a friend. Just like a friend, a good neighbours will always be by your side when you have difficulties. A good neighbour also will be friendly and not rude. Most of my neighbours like to play soccer. Sometimes they would even play soccer when me and my family are relaxing. When my neighbours play soccer, they would be very noisy and that would ruin my mood. I would say that would be inconsiderate. Luckily, they would play at the 1st floor. Not all of my neighbours are inconsiderate. My next-door-neighbour is very kind. They only have one son and I will always play with him. Sometimes, his family would give me presents on special occasions. Most of my neighbours are boys. There are some girls, but they do not come out of their house that much. Thank you for reading my journal. I hope you like it.

What is the best way to treat meddlesome people?

The best way to treat meddlesome people is either to ignore them or tell them their mistakes. Both of them are good ways, but I prefer to tell them their mistakes. Only for some cases, you try to ignore them. If you do the way I like, the meddlesome people will know thier mistakes and MAYBE change into a new leaf. They will also learn from their mistakes. If the meddlesome people still is not willing to change and matters gets worse, tell the teacher. That is how I teat meddlesome people. That is the end of my entry.

What is something that makes you feel sad?

What makes me feel sad is when I lost my cat. I lost my cat on Friday 15 February 2008. I missed my cat so much that I could not sleep. My younger sister even cried when she heard the bad news. She only cried for a few minutes but when she saw a stray cat, she cried again. My heart broke when I heard the bad news. My mother knew about it ever since morning because every morning, my cat would make some noises and wake my family up.(my cat is like a walking alarm clock!!)At that morning, the house was very quiet. It was very quiet, that I can hear the pin when I drop it. That is when my mother realised that my cat was missing. My mother searched everywhere around my house. When I came back from school, I asked my neighbours if they had seen my cat. Not a single soul knew where my cat is. On the following day, me, my sister and my father started pasting posters near our block. The following day, someone called my sister and claimed that he saw my cat near his house. My sister went to the caller's house and carried my cat back home. She also thanked the caller. It appears that the caller was actually was one of my sister's friend. My cat was shivering when my sister took it back home. I think it was just scared. I lived on the 10th floor but my cat was found on the 2nd floor. WOW! Imagine that. I still think it is a mystery that my cat would be found on the 2nd floor. That is what makes me feel sad.

What is your most indispensable possession and why?

My most indispensable possesion is family. Some people thinks that the most indispensable possesion is money. I do not think so. Even if I have a lot of money, I will be lonely because no one is always by my side to support me. People who thinks that money is their indispensable possesion thinks that money can buy everything. Actually that is not true. Money cannot buy people and the love for our family. To tell you the truth, I think that in order to live happily, we must have family, friends, health, knowledge and money. We need all of that but I still think that family is my most indispensable possession. We also cannot forget or leave behind our family. Just like what I heard in a show called 'Lilo and Stitch'. This is what they always say. 'Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten'. I think they are trying to say that family must stick together no matter what.

What is the best advice you ever received?

The best advice I had ever recieved is from my father. I was having some problems with my friends. The problem: One of my friends(which I would just call A) do not like the attitude of another one of my friends. (I would just call this B) Everytime A will always tell me that B is not very nice. I was getting a little bit annoyed by A. I was also scared that A and B would fight and end up being enemies. So I talked to my father. My father told me that I should talk to A and tell her not to talk bad things about B because we should be friends not enemies. After doing that, my father told me to encourage A to be friends with B and I also need to be friends with both of them. I did all the things that my father instructed me to and I had no problems anymore. That is the best advice I had ever recieved.

What is the meaning of "He laughs best who laughs last"?

I think the meaning of "He laughs best who laughs last" is if you think that you are the best, then you will be the weakest. If you know the story about the tortise and the hare who were competing in a race with each other and in the end the tortise wins, then that is what I am reffering to. For example:
Fred was very good in his maths and he scored full marks for his exam last year. Now the exams is coming. He did not bother to study for maths because he thought that he could score full marks. During his maths exam, he panicked because all the maths questions seem foreign to him. The exams were over and Fred's class got their report cards. Fred had gotten very low marks for all his subjects including maths. Later on, Fred found out that a boy named Danny who always get very low marks for his subjects had gotten first in class because Danny studied. When Fred got home, he got a scolding from his mother and ever since that day, Fred will not stop studying even if he got first place in class. I do not know if that is the true meaning. If anyone know, can you please tell me?? That is all for now.BYE BYE!!

What is your favourite time of day?

My favourite time of the day is 2.00 p.m. because it is after school and I can do my homework peacefully at home. You might be wondering why I added the word 'peacefully' is because my younger sister, who always disturb me while I am doing my homework, is at school and she will not be coming back until 6.00 p.m. After I do my homework, I will play some games such as my XBOX, Nintendo DS and PSP. I sometimes fix puzzles, watch the television, play computer games, hear songs from my handphone or MP4 and read a storybook. I also sometimes play with my neighbour, Brandon. When it is 5.00 p.m., Brandon and me will sometimes go cycling below my block if we are not busy at that time. That is why I like 2.00 p.m. so much.

What is something you dislike about yourself?

What is something that I dislike about myself is that I tend to be emotional.I take things to heart. I do not know why I even feel very emotional. When people scold me, I will sometimes cry. My sister liked to call me a crybaby ever since I was in kindergarten school until I was in primary 3.I do not want to be called a crybaby so I was practicing not to cry when I was in primary 4.(I still cry but that is when people really hurt my feelings)Now I feel that I am not very emotional.(YAY!) I just feel that people who will read this post, will laugh.(but I also appreciate it if you will not laugh!) Actually this fact about me is suppose to be a secret to everyone except my family but I feel that by letting you know about it, I will feel much better. That will be the end of what I am going to say. I hope you understand me much better now.

What is your favourite room in your home and why?

My favourite room is my bedroom. It is my favourite because I can spend my time alone in my room. Unfortunately, I have to share my bedroom with my younger sister because there is no rooms for my younger sister to sleep in.(That is so unfair!!!!!) I just wish that I can kick my younger sister out of my bedroom and make her sleep in the toilet!!(just joking!) Back to the bedroom story. When I am in my bedroom , I will feel very fine and relax. I will forget about the problems I have at school. It was as if my bedroom is under a good magical spell. A spell that when you take a first step in the bedroom, all your problems will be wash away from your mind. In my bedroom, I also have a very comfortable bed. My bed is very soft. After school, I will lie down on my bed and rest there for a while. I also have a lot of posters of my favourite singers hanging on my wall. Talking about my bedroom makes me feel sleepy. Oh well. I need to go for now. Bye!

What is something you do well?

I do not know if I do well in drawing but a lot of my friends always told me that I do well when it comes to drawing. I also admit that I'm good at drawing. I don't really mean to show of but that is my true talent. I already told you in 'A letter to Mrs. Sim' that my hobby is drawing. My sister told me that my family knows how to draw. Each of my family member has their own type of drawing styles. My father and me knows how to draw cartoons. My elder sister knows how to draw landscapes and my mother knows how to draw almost everything. My younger sister is still learning how to draw. This is the end of what I am going to write. (I think anyone can learn how to draw)

What is your favourite month? Why?

My favourite month is March because on 16 of March is my birthday. When it is the 1st of March, I will always make a count down until the day of my birthday. There is one girl from 5-1 named Hadirah. Her birthday falls on the same day as me. Unfortunately, Hadirah and my birthday is during the March holidays so my class cannot celebrate my birthday on the actual date. Luckily, this year, my birthday is on Sunday, right before school reopens. On Saturday,I have chinese ochestra and I can tell my chinese ochestra friends and the instructor that the day after is my birthday. On Sunday(which is my birthday), I also have chinese orchestra so they will bring me presents!Hooray!!!!! After my birthday, I will have presents again because I will meet my closest friends.(If they remember my birthday...) I will have to remind myself to wish happy birthday to Hadirah. That is all I have to say......Bye!

What is something that makes you angry?

The thing that makes me feel sad are insults. I hate to hear people giving insults either to me or to another person. It breaks my heart to hear such rude words and bad things about me coming out of a person's mouth. It does not only breaks my heart but other people's heart too. I recalled that I also had been saying insults to my younger sister. Ever since that day, I felt guilty and bad for insulting my younger sister. Even if I did insulted my younger sister, she still love me. I was relieved that she is not mad about me insulting her. In the future, I do not want to ever give an insult to anybody... unless I could not control myself!

What is the worst thing parents can do to their children?

The worst thing parents can do to their children is critise them in their studies. If their children did not do well in their studies eventhough they have work hard, parents should encourage them. Parents in Singapore tend to emphasis more on higher marks and good position in class rather than giving them support, praises and words of encouragement. This way, the parents would just be giving their child more and more stress. They would even say things such as ''You must do well in your studies or no gameboy for two weeks!'' or ''You must get a good position in class or you cannot play with your friends for one week!''. I feel that it is a wrong thing to do. As a parent, they should be nice to the child wether the child has done well or not. Even if the child has done well, they should be praising the child in a good way. Instead of saying ''Good work! I want to see this kind of work every day or you will get canning from me!'', they should be saying ''Excellent! I am proud of you son! You are so smart!''. I hope that parents in Singapore or any part of the world would not put pressure on their children.

What is the best birthday present I could receive?

Many children love to have a lot of presents for their birthday such as pets, toys and even money. I also would love to have toys and money but there is one present that I would like to have every year of my birthday. The present is spending my birthday with my family and friends. I do not really know if it is really a birthday present to other people but to me its something a person should have for his or her birthday. Now you know what I want for my birthday. I hope that some people would feel the same way as I do.

A letter for Mrs. Sim

Dear Mrs. Sim,

Hi! This is Liyana here. I can't believe that it's already 2nd January 2008! That means it is the first day of school! Anyway, you might not know me that well so I should probably introduce myself.

My name is Liyana Kaiyisah Mohamed Hatta. I love to read books! My favourite authors are Roald Dahl and James Lee. Roald Dahl wrote a lot of children storybooks such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, Boy and more. James Lee writes horror stories. I think that both James Lee and Roald Dahl's stories appeal to children because all the stories are very intresting and have exciting adventures. Other than books, I also love to draw. If I want to draw, I got to have a lot of imagination. I sometimes imagine lots of things such as aliens and monsters. I also love to draw people and animals. Maybe someday I will show you my drawings. My favourite colours are sea blue, sky blue and turquoise. My ambition is to be either an artist or an author.

I believe you asked me about my study habits and what I like about my school. I will draw up a timetable and plan. I will look at all my mistakes from my old tests and try to redo the questions. What I like about my school is that the school is caring and encourages us to study. My school also have a lot of activities for the students such as learning journeys and more.

I got to rush of to class! Thank you for reading this letter! I hope to get a reply from you.

Yours sincerely,
Liyana Kaiyisah
